How are part prices calculated?
Giftapart uses a complex mathematical algorithm to determine the part prices. The product's full retail price plus taxes, shipping and fees are all added together, and divided up into affordable parts. And this is awesome: Everyday Giftapart checks for the item's actual selling price. If the price dropped, or is selling for a lower price, Giftapart will execute the order so long as there is enough contributed funds to cover the current price plus the shipping, tax and fees (if any). So, many items get funded before all the parts are even bought.

What happens if extra money was contributed to the item?
Good question. Sometimes an item drops in price, and it's executed at a lower price. Your contributors had already bought most of the pasts. Here's an example, removing tax etc. to keep it simple... a watch was listed at $599 MSRP, but today, it went on sale for $300 (great!). Your gift was $580 funded already. There's enough money to pay for the item at the current price, so Giftapart executes the gift for you. It cost $300, and you have $280 left over. If you have another item on your list, the extra funds get applied to the next item. If you don't have another item, the extra funds go to your Giftapart credit for you to use to buy whatever you want.

Think about that... If you're creating a gift registry, and you really need a refrigerator that costs $1,500, it's unlikely that your guests will pick that out of your many items on a traditional gift list.

After they purchase all the refrigerator parts, the refrigerator is sent to you, and the next item automatically comes up for gift contributions.

Giftapart breaks up the gift into affordable parts. The total price is the highest possible price to fund, includes the MSRP, tax, shipping and fees (if any). Giftapart checks your item's price every day, so if the price drops and there's enough in funded contributions, your order executes.

How to save on shipping?
If you have more than one item on your list from the same retailer, Giftapart gives you the option to link the items together so you save on shipping. Either drag the items together or select "Group by Retailer". When two or more items are next to each other in the list, the lock button shows up. If you turn on the lock, then the items will ship together to the gift recipient. This often results in a savings in shipping. The money saved gets passed on to the next item on the list. If there are no additional items on the list, the savings gets returned to the user in Giftapart credit.

What happens if I unlock items?
If the items were locked together and no one has contributed to the items yet, unlocking the items does nothing except unlock them. Once the items are unlocked, you can drag-and-drop individual items anywhere you want on your list. But, if an item was already fully funded on your locked selections, by unlocking that item, it will execute the order for shipping. Your items will now fund and ship separate. So if you locked an item, and it was funded, you can always change your mind and unlock it at any time.
